APUSH Summer Assignment 2013-2014
In order to prepare incoming students for the AP U.S. History course, students are required to complete a summer assignment. Students will be tested on the first day of class over the entire summer assignment (after the “investment day”). Students may use the completed summer assignment on the test. The purpose of this assignment is to ensure that all incoming students start with the same basic working knowledge. The test over the summer assignment will be the first grade of the grading period. There is no provision for late work.
The summer assignment consists of 3 parts:
1. Reading the first 6 chapters
2. Completing the workbook pages for the first 6 chapters
3. Completing the Unit 1 study guide *understand that the study guide does get into chapters 7 and 8.
Note: In case you haven't figured it out yet, this assignment requires quite a bit of time. Please manage your time wisely.
* I highly recommend obtaining a used copy of the textbook. A personal copy allows the student to write in, and highlight the textbook. Used copies can be obtained for as low as 99 cents, depending on condition. In the past, I've used the following sites: Alibris, Better World Books, Abe Books, Thriftbooks and Amazon, along with many others.
Here is the information for your textbook:
The American Pageant: A History of the Republic
12th edition. New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 2002
Kennedy, David, Elizabeth Cohen, Thomas A. Bailey
ALL OF YOUR WORK MUST BE HAND-WRITTEN. ASIDE FROM PRINTING OUT THE PDFs, THE STUDENT MAY NOT USE THE COMPUTER FOR ANY PART OF THE SUMMER ASSIGNMENT.
