Week of December 1
Monday: Foreign Policy notes Tuesday: Supreme Court activity instructions - You and your partner (check your Gmail) will create a Google Slides presentation about your assigned Supreme Court. You are expected to use www.oyez.org to research these cases, everything you need will be found there. I've found the easiest way is to go to Google and search for "case name" oyez; the search function on the site is hit or miss. One other site you may use is http://www.law.cornell.edu/ Your presentation should have all of the following information in an easy-to-read format (bullet points). - Case name/Year/Chief Justice - Facts of the Case - Plaintiff Argument - Defendant Argument- any amicus curiae briefs that were filed - the Constitutional question to be decided - the Ruling, summary of the opinion, summary of any concurring opinions, summary of the dissenting argument, if there were any (may want to split this up into a couple of slides) - What does it mean for you, as a young person/student? These should be shared as "CAN VIEW" by the end of the period Wednesday at [email protected] Wednesday: Ch. 18 quiz; Complete Supreme Court case research presentation with the class Thursday: Judicial Branch notes Major Supreme Court cases: Complete the chart shown on the board (and Shared through Google Docs) over the following cases. Each case has a link to Oyez.org, although you may need to go outside of that site for the facts of the case. Everything else will be found there though. Kelo v. City of New London McDonald v. Chicago Lemon v. Kurtzman Mapp v. Ohio Gideon v. Wainwright Engel v. Vitale Friday: Roberts Courts cases Complete the chart sent out yesterday for the following cases: Fisher v. UT Florida v. Jardines U.S. v. Windsor Hollingsworth v. Perry Shelby County v. Holder |
