Political Campaign Ad Project
PROJECT DUE MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2012
In a group of no more than 3, you are to research one of the possible 2012 Presidential Candidates (see list at bottom of page), and create a 60 second television campaign advertisement for the candidate. Since you will need to know enough about the candidate to make an effective commercial, and due to the propensity of students to just cut and paste (provide citations), you are responsible for finding the following information:
1. Personal Background/Biography of the candidate
1. Family Life
2. Education
3. Work Experience
4. Political Experience
2. Ideology
1. Important Issues
2. Position on Issues
3. Campaigning
1. Use of Media
1. Television appearances
2. Radio appearances
3. Print
4. Web presence
2. Early Endorsements/Supporters
1. Unions
2. Political Figures
3. Celebrities
3. Fund Raising
1. Web Based Fund Raising
2. Political Action Committee
3. Large Donors
4. Small Donors
5. Will They Accept Federal Money?
Once you find the information, you are to create a television advertisement to present to the class. Incorporate policy information, images of the candidate, and appropriate propaganda techniques into the advertisement. Your grade will be based on the effectiveness and quality of the ad (70%), as well as the background information (30%).
If you would like to choose someone with the same ideology as yourself, find out what you think about the issues by taking a political ideology quiz online. One of the most well known is under the Resources page of my website www.politicalcompass.org.
2012 Presidential Candidates
Democratic Party
Barack Obama (Incumbent)
Republican Party
Mitt Romney (former Governor, Massachusetts)
